Our Mission
Westlake High School students, Kareena and Siyona Biswas founded Rhythmic Connections, a club that brings students musicians to assisted living facilities to perform for the residents. They were inspired to start the club after witnessing the effects of music first-hand on their late grandfather, who had dementia. Even when language and memory failed him, music did not. There was something about hearing a familiar tune that seemed to cut through everything else. Music is not just something you hear but a language and feeling that trandcends generational and cognitive boundaries. Student performers and elderly residents alike have expressed feelings of fulfillment, joy, and empathy after experiencing the connection only music can create.
